You know how sometimes, the unplanned things turned out for the best. How no matter how much one plans, its the unexpected things that gives one much joy. That was my inner Zen talking. Back to my camping story. We were suppose to go camping with Neil’s preschool with a bunch of other families. XYZ happened and that campsite fell through. Nevertheless, because of a extra-special woman who we’ll call J, she managed to secure campsites near the beach. I still hadnt pack anything, so after working in his school all morning, I came home and literally starting throwing stuf in duffel bags.
Nk left work early and we reach the site. We were the 2nd familiy there. Nk tried to figure out the tent stuff(short story abt the tent. 2 years ago, when we got our Costco rebate check, instead of spending it on grocery,we decided to spend it on something tangible, so a tent was chosen. A virgin tent which travelled from CO to CA and had never been used before this trip) We got the tent up and took out the sleeping bags and threw everything in the tent.
Samar was still sleeping in the van throughout this all. When he woke up, he started wheezing. Pretty bad! Nk then decided that he is going to go home, and bring the nebulizer(the campsite was 45 min away from home at the most)
Meanwhile, I had guacamole whipped up, we had chicken burrito. the kids had quesadillas. Everything was working out perfectly. There wasnt much crying. There wasnt much fighting. I thought I could do this. Night fall ensured. J started the fire and the kids made S’mores. Ate way too many.Who can keep count, I was on my 2nd glass of wine not to mention the fancy Manhattan another mom gave me. Eventually, the kids all went to bed(12 in total, Ashwina the oldest at 10 and I think the youngest was 18 months). the adults sat around with the 3rd bottle of wine and the huge bottle of Pub mix from Costco. Stories were shared–of a tenant growing pot in their house, of screw-ups in daily life, the dad’s profession.. The wine kept flowing and the stories kept coming. Eventually we called it a night.
The next day dawned bright an early. Breakfast was pancakes. Kids ate, and the moms took off on a walk. We did a 2.1 walk/run. The daddies went on a man walk. We hiked to beach with all the kids. Played in the tide pools, made sandcastles.Lunch,Naps, And then the big campfire. Hotdogs.Burger.Beer..all good stuff. A birthday celebrated, A pinata pulled. Candy collected.
Night around the fire pit, I was informed abt alternative music. N.W.A(I have never heard of them. gansta rapppish much from the late 80s to 90s) More chit chatting, more talking, I was asked am I a traditional wife? I think Nk actually laughed out loud at that. Again bedtime.
Next day dawned early and bright. Breakfast was bagels. And it was time to pack up. The adventure had ended. It was really fun and I want to do it again. The thing that made it fun was the company. People with witty jokes and smart stories. I cant wait to do it again.

This has been languishing in my Drafts folder for 2 weeks now. I am publishing it as is.-

Great time you had sunita !!! Camping is always fun when you have a lot of wonderful people and the best part of it all is always the late night chatting around the fire with a drink !!!!
wow…that was an awesome trip! and good company really makes all the difference.
me: I know/ the one that I am going to in July is with my MOMS club people and I dont know anyone in that group, so am a bit hesitant but still excited. As long as there is wine in the evening and coffee/chai in the mornings,,all’s good
WoW…. brought some old memories back..
Whats better than having such a wonderful time with family!!
Me: Yes, and we have another one in July.
You are brave. I consider camping wearing bug repellent in my own backyard.
Me: rofl I used Best Western hotels to be camping. How times have changed..sigh
You know this right – you are going higher and higher in god-dom!
Also, can see potential material for more are-you-for-real trolls in this post.
Wow sounds like fun.
We have been planning a camping trip for 5 years now. Never happened!!
I laughed so hard at this:
“I was asked am I a traditional wife? I think Nk actually laughed out loud at that.”
This happens to me all the time!
Hehe we had this kite when I was a kid. Real fancy, expensive British kite. Never b****y used it! Your virgin tent reminded me of it.
I thought you lived in CO! Was wondering where the Beach came from.
Me: I was in CO but moved to Bay Area 6 months ago, keep up Dude
What fun!! I am dying to go for my first ever camping trip (whenever that happens) Hopefully this fall. Summer in Texas is no good for campouts.
Me: It is so much fun. The kids played with rocks, climbed trees, played on the beach. No TV, no computer..just outside fresh air
Fun! Fun! FUN!! Can I go with you?
Me: for real? Sure Buy a tent and sleeping bags and we’ll give you the food

We went camping when Cantaloupe was 3 and I was pregnant with my second one … what fun it was ! The company made it all the more special !
