When I found out my 3rd child was a boy, I was happy that my girls would have a brother to tie rakhi to. Growing up in Singapore, we tied to my male cousins and thats it(one of them is Deeepu who comments here.Happy rakhi to you lah). I always try and make Rakhi a big thing. Even though we werent going out anywhere, I made the kids wear their salwaar suits and the boys their sherwani. I cooked quite the spread in the afternoon for dinner,
My inlaws watched the girls tying via Skype. I dont know whether the girls understand the significance of the festival. But I hope that they grow up and remain th best of friends.

Neil showing off the rakhis

The Food I cooked. Notice the paper plates

As kids we wore new clothes. And yes, we didn’t go out any where. The festival was just an excuse for new clothes. As adults, I try and put on something traditional for the occasion.
BTW, lovely pics. Yes, it does make me want to have 4 kids
The kids look too adorable! Both the boys and both the girls.
Sraikh, you do know that you are a super mom right? How you manage four kids, household work, cooking, on top of that gym, playdates, doctor appointment, dress up so fashionably AND blog about all the aforementioned topics very regularly……Man! You can’t see me right now, but I am bowing to you. You seriously are the ultimate super mom!
Me: Do the see the mess of toys behind Neil? Also I dont watch TV at all. Thats my secret. Not watching TV. Or movies.
Btw, what all did you cook? Pliss to tell.
And oh, is that kheer? Yum!
Me: Kheer, Halwaa,Aloo sabzi and baigan bartha. And I forgot the raita that was in the fridge.
I dropped in at the Mad Momma’s house on Diwali last year. I had crashed at a friend’s place after partying the previous night, and was wearing the same clothes. Also unshaven, unbathed, and generally feeling dirty. To my dismay MM’s entire household was dressed in spanking new ethnic wear, just for the festival. So evidently people do dress up for festivals, although it’s not something we do at our home, especially if we’re just staying in. I’m used to Christmas presents being exchanged in– haha –pyjamas.
PS Food looks good!
Me: I remember that photograph. It was Diwali, people in Singapore dress up for Diwali

I have a younger bro and when at home, we do dress up – if not in the best, at least in some traditional attire. What’s the fun when doing all special stuff in your PJs, haina?
Am sure all the four kiddoos will grow up to fondely recall the memories of raksha bandhan..because of you.
