Kuch Bhi Title Laga Do

Instead of taking someone’e else blog comment space, I thought I should just spew on my own.:)

I have been leaving comments on Rad’s ’s post. And then I read what Rambodoc wrote. And who am I to argue with a doctor.?But I wanted to share my interesting experience regarding  the statement cardio is not for fatloss. I love doing cardio. I love going out for a run, feeling my heart pounding, feeling the ache in my calves, my breath in short gasps. I love taking Spinning classes. The climb up on a level 8 and spinning as fast as one can on a level 4, after sweat pouring down my forehead. I love doing laps at the pool. The exhaustion in your arms as you pull through the water, when all you want to is stop moving your ams but you cant.

Then I burnt my foot. It hurt whenever I flexed my leg. That meant no running and no spinning, no elliptical machines as well. I took a few days off here and there to recover from the injury but I still went to the gym. In the first week of my burnt foot, I only did arms/chest/ab work. I did alot of ab work. I did the Pilates Hundred. I used the Bosu ball to do bicycle kicks.

The 2nd week of my burnt foot, I added back squats and lunges and step ups on stools. I did a few but my foot still hurt so I eased off.Still no cardio, no swimming, nothing

The 3rd week, I added alot of deadlifts/squats/plie squats/walking lunges. And I started doing the Speed skaters between each weight lifting set. Still no cardio.

The 4th week, I started running on the treadmill once and did one measly 2.5 mile run.Thats it. I still didnt do much. But, my body changed the most this month. I lost 4 lbs last month. My size 10s are finally loose. I got the most compliments from friends. I attribute the difference to 2 things.

1. I lifted alot of heavy weights. I pushed myself and did alot of slow reps. Instead of using momentum, I held the weight andcounted one-one thousand, two-one thousand, three one thousand, FOUR.

2. Running and Swimming made me always hungry. I would feel like a bear after running and would have dinner right after. At the gym, I would have a Luna bar to keep me from feeling light headed. Because I wasnt doing the cardio, I wasnt eating as much.Because I wasnt eating as much, I lost the weight faster.

That said, I started my running and swimming again. I would never give up the cardio. Because I didnt run for so long, I am now so much slower. I hate that. I want to go back to my slow poke 13 min mile non stop running instead of run/walk I did the last 2 times(The Nike graph embarrassed me)

A bad picture but this is today’s outfit. A long flowing tunic, I had gotten at TJMaxx back in May. I love this blouse. Its a chiffon type material and makes me feel all feminine. Leggings from Forever 21.

  2. rads says:

hey girl, Pilates is awesome most definitely! I should re-enroll again this fall. You’re quite the inspiration as am sure others agree! :)

Ultimately, we do and squeeze what we can do and what our bodies allow us to do. But yeah, it’s always a fun learning experience! :)

Me: I know. I do whats best for me and my body and my time. Right?

  3. rads says:

..and oh, what spew, what space, you gotta be kidding me. I have no idae what you talking about! :-p

  4. You are a rockstar Sraikh! What is a Nike Graph, and how did you go about your running, even trying make go completely out
    of breath!

Me: A Nike + is a device I use to track my runs, one part goes into my ipod and the other onto my shoe. It tracks how fast I ran and calories. It then uploads via Itune on the Nike website. Its pretty cool and cheap(USD$26). The running, I started with Couch to 5k podcast. Its a series of 8 week podcast that takes you from the couch to running a 5k. Its 3x a week 30 mins. The first week, you walk 5 mins then run 1 min and then in increases from there until it haves you running 30 mins. I liked it. If you have a ipod, search via Itunes for the FREE podcasts

You know S, my acquaintance with you is through FF and its a shame that the blog is already dead. But you truly inspire.

Me: Remember the initial flurry of emails. Sigh

Forget intense workout or weightloss goals…its almost two months since I last visited the gym for regular exercise. Ever since I moved to the new house our schedules have gone for a toss plus summer holidays and 10+ hour work days. I am going crazy. The funny part is the scales have held not just steady, but actually gone down. I have no idea how I lost 4 extra pounds without exercising or food control. Perhaps the stress. I am honestly thinking of quitting my job for some time and stay home with the kids. It definitely wont be free time or less work but I so desperately need some flexibility and some good working out.
Sorry for rambling on here. If you can why can’t I :( Tell me where you buy your superwoman juice from.

Me: I hope you figure something out. HUGS. Superwoman juice..I will send you an email about this joke. A bit too ahem risque for my PG 16 blog

  8. V says:

Wow! can you please share your trainer’s name and gym address? Before depression about my weight makes me do crazy things? thanks!

Me: V, sent you an email :)

    Ok I have to comment.
Technically I dont know if cardio is for fatloss or not(like decresing the % body fat) but it has worked for me to decrease my weight by 10 pounds so far. Then my body fat % was 30 something, now it is 21, so there was a reduction as a result.
But I have to say that core exercises are really the key in getting a fit and healthy body (by strengthening the back and core muscles), and Rambodoc does talk a lot about those exercises.

Me: Right. I dont think NOT doing any cardio would make sense at all. Everything I have read always says weightloss is a combination of cardio+ strength training.

And like he says, true that fat loss begins with what we do at the grocery store and in the kitchen, but you know what? A south indian has got to have her rice na? So while I might not get the super fit 10% fatloss body, I am happy with 19!

Me: I know, that is why I can never go on a specific diet. Because I tell myself that you cannot eat rice or aloo paratha, then I find myself craving it and binging.:)

  10. Baap re..just reading those details of what you do/did in your workout sessions made me sweat.
Some terms were so alien to me that I had to open up google * embarrassed smile *

Me: This is why I love google. I google alot of things that everyone else seems to know except me.

Way to go miss and keep up the tempo!

At this rate, know wat..In your sisters shaadi some old aunty might just come to you and ask ‘Are you married? Am looking for a bride for my young bachelor son’ ;)

Me:rofl . Have you read this old post of mine? http://asaaan.wordpress.com/2008/07/05/india-leg-ii/

  11. It’s interesting you say this…even I have seen some thoughts on this…am working on that post..shall publish it soon..

    4 pounds lost…yeah baby!

  12. Anamika says:

Send send ;) A laugh would be good :D

  13. Miss M says:

    Oh yummm rojak!!

Then we’ll go for rojak. And more! :)

Me: Whats your favourite rojak piece? Mine was th deep fried hotdog. All of us fought for it.And oh the eggs.

  14. You really are working at it. You are so inspiring and motivating me lady!! Sorry for the bad typo in the original comment…. I wanted to say, even thinking of running that much makes me go out of breath!
