30 mins before my time runs out for NaBloPoMo(whatever its called)

Exhausting Exhausting day. Its funny how planning the weekends always falls on my shoulders. Why cant NK google kid-friendly stuff is beyond me. He woke up and started packing a picnic lunch.Lets go to Napa,he said. Okay Let me check that out. Google showed unless you are sans kids, there is nothing much to. Most of the wine tours were not open to KIDS(rightly so) there was a park with some geyser thing which I wasnt keen on. there was hot springs which costs $25 per person. Screw that.

Texting back and forth with a friend  asking for suggestions (who was trying to convince me to take the ferry). We decided to go the beach. Twenty mins later, we decided to go to the Aquarium which is 100 miles away.(What we are very fluid always always going with the flow type) Packing and getting everyone ready, we left at almost close to noon.

We finally reached the town and decided to head to a awesome playground and let the kids ran around while we had lunch.

Eventually we reached the Aquarium at 3. And it was so so crowded. It is mentally very exhausting to keep track of 4 kids. And the boys were excited and kept dashing off. The Seahorse exhibit was dark and I kept loosing track of Neil. We then decided to split up, one boy-girl pair with each parent.More running after the child. ensuring that he was taking turns at the exhibits. Not many pictures were taken because most of it was too dark.

The kids had mini meltdowns at 6 and we knew it was time to leave. Plus I needed chai/coffee. We walked down and got the kids pizza, ourselves coffee and everyone ate and behaved wonderfully. We packed everyone up and left at 7. Thankfully there was hardly any traffic on the way back.

Mid way- we stopped at some premium outlets and NK got himself a wallet and tshirt. Its his birthday tomorrow. The boys were sleeping and I sat in the van with them, while he shopped in peace. I told him thats his birthday gift!

We finally reached home at ten and I am writing this down so that my streak wouldnt be broken. How’s that for commitment?

She refused to look up. She was feeling bored. I wonder those people with kids with big age gaps, how do they ensure everyone is having fun. Its getting more and more difficult to please everyone in the household

  1. Wow! Sounds like fun. i can imagine it must be difficult keeping allf our of them happy, and yet I am sure it must have been fun. Hats off to you S, keep it going. And we are that type to, going with the flow kind of outings. :)

  2. Miss M says:

Happy birthday to your dear NK! :)

And your weekend sounds perfect. All I did was stayed in cos’ it has been raining all day. Sigh!

  3. Tara says:

the pic of ur child with attitude is super cool, i am sure she would love to see this pic even years after today..!!
why didnt u get urself clicked???

Me: I dont know why? Nk never says let me take your picture!

btw, a day well spent, it seems like.. birthday wishes in advance to your better half :)

  4. Rohini says:

Phew. I feel exhausted just having read that!

  5. xyz says:

I guess you’d never publish this and shrug me off as a troll, but don’t you think it is rather shameless to ask your readers to contribute money for your trip to India and then go for long weekend trips?

Me: Thats me. Shameless. Also why cant trolls pick out interesting aliases. Like Asaaan is a Shithead or Crackwhore.. why XYZ or ??? Or ABC.. seriously if you are a troll, next time use an interesting alias. We wanted to stay at this wonderful seaside town but hotels were going for over USD$100 per night so even though we were exhausted, we drove back home that very night. Seriously did you fail at comprehension?

I agree your kids need to go out and have fun too, but heard of taking packed food during outings so that you don’t spend on eating out? It might be a few dollars, but that is how you save, you know.

Me: Did you read the first part of the paragraph. Where we packed a picnic lunch?

There are hundreds of people, moi included, who have set priorities and decided to go without lil’ things that we enjoy so that we could spend on something we really wanted. For example, ever since we put the down payment on a fancy apartment, we have been keeping a budget and counting every penny we spend. So, if we really badly wanted to go on a trip, and the month’s budget is ***, we save on some other account head, like eating out and shopping, and make sure we don’t go over.

Me: dude I am sahm mom to four kids and we live in the fucking Bay Area. with one earning member of the family. I am the Queen of Budget. Do you know we never ever eat out. NEVER!

Ever thought of spending a li’ less on your clothes and make up and God knows what else and saving up to go to India, rather than ask people to contribute while you carry on with your life as if nothing has happened?

    Think about it.

Me: Thank for you kind advice. Now why dont you continue with YOUR LIFE in your FANCY APT.

  6. Perakath says:

‘Pretending to read’ is too cute! Can he not read?

Me: dude he is 2.5 yrs old. Not yet.. but he can tell some of the alphabet and STOP signs.

  8. Anjali says:

I’m wondering about this same thing with my kids — how to something everyone enjoys when there’s 6 years between the oldest and youngest. Unfortunately, what we’ve done to solve the problem isn’t really all that much fun — one of us takes the two big girls to do something they like, while the other stays with the baby (or runs errands with the baby). It ends up splitting the family up, which I don’t like. But on the other hand, everyone is happy.

Me: We do the split thing as well. I can forsee more and more splitting in the future.

  9. kenny says:

wow! that sounds like a good substitute for a work-out (this is how I weigh outings these days). maybe i should offer baby-sitting on days when I cannot run or go to the gym.

  10. Tammy says:

Ugg Monterey is always so crowded on the weekends.
The playground there is awesome however my kids scare the crap out of me when they play on the train.
    Glad your day ended well.

  11. soniarai says:

Gosh! Why are people so busy-bodies? Just mind their own business. What she does with her life or how she spends or saves, who cares men? I mean whe the hell is she?? Get a life you stupid women!

Seriously, I think you are getting soooo popular in the blogging world, and ppl are jeolous of you….:)

  12. Neha says:

    Hey Sraikh!

I was scrounging for your email ID but didn’t find any on the blog. Anyway, I needed some help from you. I start gymming this week with a really tall expectation from myself. I have my wedding coming up in the first week of December. So, I am taking up a 90-day challenge. It’s been years of trying to shed weight, giving up, regretting it and starting with apprehension again, but I really need to do it right this time simply because I so want to look good on my W-day :(

I am going to be trying to eat right (the hardest part for me!) and undergo a workout which will be a mix of planned weights and cardio by my trainer. Just wanted to request you to send any useful tips my way. I know, everyone is different and it really depends on your body type and responsiveness to the regime you follow, not to mention your level of motivation – but a few tips from you will still help, since I really admire the journey you’ve gone through the last few months.

    - Neha

Me: will send an email later today.

BTW, I was thinking you live in S’pore all this while..god knows why.

By the sound of Napa and the aquarium which seems like Monterey Bay..seems like you live around Bay Area, USA somewhere!
