Today was the first day of school

And its 10.09p/m and I just sat down with my laptop. My days are going to be crazy.

Neil Monday to Friday- 8.10a/m-11.45

Avasha 8.25 to 2.35

Ashwina 8.25 to 3.10

NK will be dropping all 3 in the morning. I will head to the gym at 9 oclock, take the 1 hour 9.30a/m class(Spinning Mon-wed, Yoga Friday) , swim/weights/abs from 10.30 to 11.20..shower, get dressed, get Samar from the kidcare and then rush to pick Neil up. Come home, feed boys, clean/cook/Internet and then leave to pick Avasha at 2.20. Hang at the playground till 3.10. Come home, snack/dinner/homework/bathtime/bedtime/ and rinse and repeat ad nauseum.

Samar starts Sept 15 and he would go

Tues 9.00-12.30(I will be working in his classroom)

Thurs 9.00- 11.30–I need to figure out what I am going to do during these 2 hours. Head to Barnes and Noble with a iced mocha and sit and read. Shop?(although my trolls would get upset) Go for a run at one of the trails? I might do a 5k with Anita(who reads and comments here) Ahh the possibilities. The one day I will be child free for 2.5 hours. Seriously what would I do with myself?

I also checked out the school calendar and the week I want to leave for Singapore/India is  Parent Teacher conferences and early dismissal week followed by Thanksgiving Holiday. I dont know whether I can trust NK not to lose a child somewhere.(The girls would be doing Girl Scouts/Ashwina music stuff, Neil might be in soccer) He lose my giant stroller at the Zoo, what if he forgets a child at a activity? I still cannot make up my mind whether I want to go. One hand my sisters wedding and the other my older 3 kids and all our/their crap here.. Wedding! Kids. Wedding! Kids…on and on the pendulum swings in my mind..

Anyways the kids refused to take pictures and I was running around like a chicken trying to find 3 different classrooms for all of them. Oh I just remembered. We apparently have the worst teacher for Neil’s kindergarten. She wasnt at all prepared this morning. She had a monologue about herself which no one understood. One of the parents asked her, What is her teaching philosophy. And her answer was There are many out there. This same parent asked what grades has she taught. And her answer was, she was a nanny, and then she did her Master in something related to kids at UCDavis, and then she worked with middle school kids. I am not making this shit up. Her answers were bizarre and not at all related to the questions. I then said goodbye to Neil and left.

I had just put the car in Drive when I saw one of the moms who I had a playdate( from my mom’s club) sobbing and I rolled my window down and asked her whats wrong. That poor mom. She said she was upset at how our children are going to suffer. How unorganized this teacher seemed! How did we get the short end of the bargain. I told her maybe she doesnt have adult skills but the kids would love her and thats what its important. Then she said, do you think they would learning anything. I said I am sure they will and we will re-enforce at home and not to worry and we’ll get an awesome first grade teacher next year. That poor mom! I got out and hugged her and then drove off.

I saw her at dismissal time and she said she is much better and she would keep a positive outlook on things.I am too tired to proof read my post. Am going to bed.

ETA: I asked Neil what was the best thing about Kindergarten. And his answer was chocolate graham crackers. Its all about the snacks!

It gets more of a whirlwind as they older and older and have to do more and more, and then suddenly they’ll be gone to collge leaving a scary silence:)

Me: Everyone says the college leaving comes too fast.

As for the teacher…the kids will learn about imperfect human beings and teachers. I was very upset about one of Divya’s UKG teachers, coz everyone said ‘things’ about her rigidity and expectations etc. But Divya adjusted quickly, it was me who was hung up…but by the end of the year, I realised that this teacher truly loved the kids and was actually very loving in the classroom, and her eccentricities were just that. And the teacher she got the next year was so colourlessly uninteresting that I really missed the previous one:) I guess sometimes we parents have to just let it go…the kids deal with it in their own way. I was just thankful that I hadn’t criticised her teacher in Divya’s presence, I never want to influence her with my cracked opinions!

Me: I am hoping that we will love this teacher as well. You give me hope.

And Dhruv also describes his snacks in much more details than the work he actually did! Love the pics, especially in the header.

Me: Its all about the snacks.

your schedule looks phew! seriously what are you going to do on those 2.5 hrs of childfree time? the iced coffee with a book sounds heavenly…

  4. Perakath says:

Silly question perhaps, but– school buses?

Me: No buses here Perakath… sigh.

  5. Poppy says:

Oh boy. That teacher sounds scary but like you said, all the theories and teaching philosophy are nothing if the teacher isn’t good with the kids – hope this one is.

You have a very full life sraikh!

Me: Crazy life is what I led.

Both Neil and Avasha are adorable. I love how bored she is with pictures and shows that in the photo! Graham Crackers…lol! I love them too….If I snacked on them, that would be the best part of my day.

I am with you about the teacher.
What do the kindergartener’s need to learn? The alphabet, how to share and clean up after themselves, right? All they need is a patient, loving teacher, no?
I am wondering what if somebody asked me my parenting philosophy! I’d say ‘go with the flow’. A smack, a bribe, a firm No or giving in at the drop of the hat…based on my instincts…because no book knows my child like I do. Somethings are negotiable, some not. Some times its okay to give in sometimes its not. So yes I have no philosophy. Does that make me a bad parent?

Me: No but you would expect a coherent answer from a teacher. A simple, I am all about play based teaching or some crap would have made alot of them happy. She wasnt making sense at all and I think thats what made alot of the moms upset.

  13. CA says:

Good luck to all the kids … I know they started new school … your time management skills are pretty impressive I must say :)

  14. Oh dear…in all the chaos you stopped to offer nice words and hug to a person in tears.
That has earned you more ‘punya’ points you can think of :)

Seriously, you are one of my favorite role models..strong lady!

    Me:)

  15. overacuppachaii says:

And I’m complaining!! :) Seriously, tell me – how many hours do you sleep a night? How do you find the energy to do so much in a day? Reveal the secret :)

Me: 11-11.30 to 6.45a/m on school nights and midnight to 8 on weekends.
