A Mish-Mash/Tights Take II/My Brilliant Child/Delurk Day

Because I was so depressed last night, Ashwina and I went shopping. She did a focus group with PBS kids and earned a $50 Amazon gift card. My genius brilliant smart wonderful child ordered
Jewelry Class in a Box and whipped up a bracelet. 30 mins later she realised that she needed crimps. Off we went to Joanns and got more beads and crimps. Then since Joanns was near my favourite thrift store, I stopped in there as well, with the intention of buying a skirt that ended 2 inches( as advised by AverageJane) above my knee And I found 2 skirts. One of which I promptly washed and wore today.
Moving along, today is the end of the month. I dont have to post everyday anymore. Although I did break my streak and so technically I disqualified, but rules schmules. I had started posting my daily outfit a week prior to starting NaBloPoMo so that counts as well. I dont understand the reason but all of a sudden, this past June/July/Aug, my readership exploded. I had 1600-2000 views per day.. The stupid stat counter doesnt tell me where people are coming from. I know some are from MM’s blog, some from google reader but the rest?? When I told NK this, he said its most likely Googlebots. Dont you love how encouraging he is? So to prove him wrong, will you leave a comment and say hi?

This is her first attempt at making jewelery with crimps and wire. She has been stringing them on a magic stretch cord so far. I really wish I could enroll her in some beading classes. My local parks n recs has beading classes but they are for over 18.

Jewelry is awesome. As for the dress, am not a fan of this one :)

  8. M says:

Hi again – I am the original “M”!

I think the tights don’t work with the skirt – get a shirtdress instead – that seems to be the best look (IMO, anyway) for tights.

Yoru daughter is indeed very talented – can you contact the teacher at the rec ctr? Most teachers at rec centers usually have other locales they teach at.

    M

    Me: Waves special hello.

  17. Neetu says:

    hi sraikh,

I am not too sure about the top, it is kinda longish. A little shorter one showing off the skirt some more might give a better balance.

Hey focus groups, been wanting to join one too. Can you let me know which yahoo group you have joined that sends out emails about the ones going on in your area?

Me: Hmm I found about this particular one from my mom’s club group. Then I joined a local one in the town I live in. Use craigslist. Thats where I found mine.

  18. mads says:

Hi there! I’ve been reading you for a while now (6 weeks may be).. Didn’t have anything purposeful to add to your posts, so never commented. Your honest no-nonsense writing keeps me coming back. Yours kids are absolutely adorable and a very lucky bunch to have a mama like you, so is your NK.

OMG ….i had to read that sentence twice to believe that she made it.

i personally have a small collection of earrings , so every time i see sumtin on the web , i get fixed onto it

she has done a brilliant job …

Me: She is very very good at reading instructions and following them to core. She ordered this book which she saw at a friend’s house Little(Beaded) Critters(by an Indian author no less) and made 3-4 keychains already. Very cute. I am asking her to make them as teacher gifts.

infact the outfit u wore a few days back is smarter than this ..the white shirt …i guess ur husbands with tights ..looked damn smart …

My friend once used to go to Michaels for the bead making class. You can enquire there.

    And nice bead work….

Me:I did and there is none! :(

  29. AverageJane says:

Present m’am. :) I love the length of the skirt and the jewelery that A made. Your kids are very talented. I think the leggings are perfect for fall with the browns and maroons and the other warmer colors that can be worn in fall. I found http://www.youlookfab.com/2007/08/01/how-to-wear-those-leggings/ and http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site36/2006/1019/20061019_082528_sty22leggings2.jpg useful. You like?

Me: Good tips. I will keep that in mind. I have the perfect fall dress for it.

  30. Uma says:

I’ve commented before so this is not an official delurk but just hi :)
I love reading your blog, because you come across as very straightforward and also a fun person.
For the bead making I agree with everyone else that Ashwina is very talented :)
I live in the bay area and every spring/fall I get a newsletter about various activities that the city has and a lot are for kids. I found a jewelery making class in the Mountain View Adult Education catalog (http://mvlaae.net/catalog.pdf) this time, but I’m guessing she can’t go for that. But maybe you could check other cities in the area, for e.g I live in MV but I could go to Sunnyvale classes if I wanted, I’d just have to pay a little more as a non resident.

Me: All the parks n recs classes are for adults, 18 and older. I looked in the 3 towns closest to me. Sigh. I dont know why there arent any classes for tweens. And we are practically neighbours :)

  31. NW says:

Another delurker. I found your blog through MM’s and live in the Bay Area too. I do enjoy your daily outfit series and love reading about your kids. When a lot of bloggers choose to remain anonymous, I think it is your openness that attracts readers. I do like the skirt and it would look nice paired with a pastel colored blouse and no tights.

Me: waves hello to another neighbour!

  32. rain says:

    Ashwina reminds me of when I was a kid and loved making jewelry. I didn’t take any classes though, but learned from my cousin and random books. I did find some online courses a while back, which I guess I should share with you;
    http://www.beaducation.com/
    http://www.enioken.com/jewelry/lessons.html
    http://www.docnmail.com/learnmore/crafts/jewelry.htm

It’s not really for little kids, but why not give her a headstart?

Also, open up an etsy shop for her and keep on encouraging her :) . I wish I got that kind of encouragement and didn’t give it up!

PS: Avasha looks beautiful modeling the jewelry!

Me: Thanks for the links I will send them to her..I dont know about an etsy store but I will encourage her to make stuff for teachers gifts and birthday party gifts

  33. Amrita says:

    Hi,
I’ve been reading your blog for a while and have left comments sporadically. I feel a special bond with your oldest since she reminds me of me! :-D
Keep writing, its brightens my day!

    Me: Waves hello.

  34. Sue says:

I’m here he he. Commenting from the computer.

  35. tarantismo says:

    hi!
delurking to tell you i’m not a google bot
Love your blog, love the honesty, love the reality! don’t ever stop, give us a NaBloPoYEAR !!

Me: Waves hello A year. I will die thinking of topics to write about. I m going to try the month next year again.

  36. V says:

    Have commented before…so am not technically a lurker..but here i am again…

Me: You guys need to give names. I am confused between all the M and Vs.

  37. Love the jewellery! Reminded me of my sister and me who made so many such beaded items during our summer vacations :)

btw, I personally think a skirt is a very flattering look for you. Skip the tights though

Me: I recently started buying skirts. I think I should wear them now instead of keeping them hidden

  38. Nu says:

    Hello,
Been reading you for a while.. You have a honest and nice blog here. Btw, pretty jewellery and a cute model :)

    Me: Waves hello.

  39. s says:

Another bayarea mom delurking for the first time.

I love your halogen skirt/white tank top/vest outfit and the other vest outfit too. Looks like vests agree with you :)

Me: waves hello. I do like wearing them as well.
And I’ve been to India recently for a flying visit (10 days, a wedding, a family renunion) without the kids and enjoyed every moment of it. I came back completely relaxed, happy and motivated to start life again. I was silently hoping that you’d go. Too bad you couldn’t.

Me: Sigh…:( Glad you had fun on your trip.

  40. Nish says:

Hi..just stumbled on to your blog while doing some random blog-hopping. Was content to just reading, but for this post just had to delurk and comment.

So, go show your guy just how many googlebots have commented here :)

Me: waves hello. I love delurkers.

  41. Anita says:

I think you can’t. WordPress does not allow it.

Me: right? I thought so too..

  42. Anita says:

By the way you still haven’t told me when you all can come over for dinner. Let’s make it next week instead. We can do Mon, Wed, Thurs. I figure if I leave this on your blog you have to respond to me. =P

Me: lets do Thursday. I keep forgetting to email you. Will text you in a bit. How was the running class?

  43. Tharini says:

Arre! Why? :) I read you, I admire you and I come back for some more…but dont always get arnd to leaving a comment. Sorry. :)

  44. Suki says:

Wow. Major respect for that kid. You have a family business(you as marketer of course ;) ) right there, yes?

Me: Right… Rai and Daughters sound pretty awesome. I think Ashwina would love it if she got money for her creations. Right now she is bugging me for beads and I told her no. So she said she will earn it and the evil mom I am, made her do laundry and she got $2. Enough for 1 packet.

  45. serendipity says:

    wow….still its commendable !
