I went out alone to my favourite thrift store this morning. They were having a 50% off entire store sale. Nk graciously stayed home with the kids and fed them breakfast. After grabbing my travel mug full of hot chai, I left at 8.Heaven is knowing you have 3 hours of ALONE time and no one to bother you!
I wanted to take pictures of the cute stuff I found(an awesome Zara shirt dress in size 8 $5) but it was too crazy. Next time, I will bring my camera. But I know you guys refuse to believe the deals I have gotten and so I took pictorial evidence with price tags, before throwing them in the laundry.
Evidences
Did you all die of jealousy yet? I spent $50(not including the shoes) and came home with 3 bags full of stuff. The store was so crowded and people were pulling and pushing. Its funny, the parking lot , full of BMWs and Lexus. The ladies parked next to me, smiled at me and asked whether I was going to the sale. I nodded yes and we were comparing notes. They told me they NEVER buy anything at retail price. She said, her mantra is , if you look long and hard, you will find it in a thrift store. I am just kicking myself that why I didnt do this before. Why did I waste my money buying retail. I can now never go back to even Ross/TjMaxx/Marshall prices(which is where I normally shop). Nk still thinks its disgusting and he gets upset when I tell someone (who is usually complimenting me on something) that it came from the thrift store. I havent figured out whether I should lie for his benefit,if its his friends(or their wives) who are asking.
next post up. Photos at the beach, with tights Take III

Where have all the thrift store gone ?
No seriously, I don’t know where to find a *thrift* store, let alone find something in it. Where should I search ? Besides Goodwill (which is not a good source for clothes in my area)
Priya.
That’s awesome. I should start doing that too. Are you going to the clothing swap?
Me:;Ohhh I am not sure!
Good finds. Bargains always brighten up my day.
And every woman needs a pair of black ballet flats in her wardrobe. They are just so versatile and current in every season.
Me: I have been walking on air since my shopping expedition
oh yes I am totallt J specially seeing all the accesories… sigh gorgeous and that dress lovely… wear it quickly and show
on a side note, I went for impulse shopping too yesterday and guess what I have gone down a size… yippeee!!
Me: YAY! Thats wonderful news. Did you dance a little in the dressing room? I always do that , when I fit into something smaller than usual
PS: I might sound stupid asking but what is a thrift store?
Me: not stupid. They dont exist in India, I think. So a thrift store is a usually a non profit organization who have a store where people donate their stuff, used, new, old and everything in between. The person donating gets a tax write off, the store sells it and the money goes towards the org. Salvation Army has them, Goodwill has them, normally local Humane/Pet Societies run one as well.
PS:Nk came and said its basically a 2nd hand store
Hi Sunita,
I officially hate you
Really, this is awesome. I also love bargains and try to be wise about spending money on clothes and accessories.
I don’t have any coach stuff (way too expensive) and would assure you that these shoes are perfect! Good decision to keep them.
ME: I was actually debating getting a really cool Coach messenger bag but a)it had a slight stain which was visible to me and b)it was $20 and I had already spent on one big ticket item
I don’t mind thrifted wear as long as they aren’t used.
Priya
Bliss….3 hours of alone time! You totally deserve it! Great finds!
Good deal!
I would do ANYTHING to get that dress! Looks nice and comfy (not to mention gorgeous !)
Even we prefer to buy during sale and not at the retail price. Somehow the MRP just doesn’t justify the stuff (or the opposite)
well you have a good eye for things as well…and well you ae lucky that your thrift store stocks interesting stuff as well. all we have are knitted caps and doilies!!!
I am seriously thinking of asking you to become my personal shopper, even if you include the cost of shipping it will be way cheaper than buying stuff in stores!!
wear all of the clothes in good health and may they bring you good luck.
Me: I need the luck
What a fantastic job that would be, becoming a personal shopper.
I am so drooling over your stuff and getting all jealous S. You lucky woman! Such amazing stuff and such cheap rates. you you you! Loved all of it, real cool stuff.
Me: I know right. Luck plays a huge part in thrift stores
Wonderful shoes and ofcourse the halogen skirt. Hey wish i was there to grab this deal. Glad you put in the pics for us to believe.
Me: next time, I will take pictures at the actual store. I dont buy alot of things so this way everyone can drool ove things.
The only place I ever used to shop in which had lower prices was Ross, esp during their sales – have gotten lovely items there for less. Never knew that salvation Army/Goodwill has such excellent things – the only things I’ve found there were washed out stuff (have ofcourse bought throwaway furniture/home accessories there) I should have been blogging when I was living in the US – would have learnt so many things!
Me: Poppy, I didnt know either. I am going to follow that lady’s mantra. if I look long enough, I will find it.
My eyes were stuck on all the jewellery that you bought! WOAH.
I loooove the second necklace from the left. I want!!!
So how much was it all for?
Me: All fo $16 and there is a watch and another necklace I bought for the girls not pictured here. Since everything was half off, I made out. My favourite is the copper 4th from left. Nk cleaned it up with a lemon/lime solution and its so coppery shiny
And totally loving the dress too.
Cant wait for pictures of you wearing them!
Hah! Good thing you cant see me. I’m the one who is green and twisted in the corner muttering, SONOVABITCH!
Me: rofl. Going green over the loot or the fact I had 3 hours of me time
But.. good going, babe:-)
o wow. i used to love going to tj maxx, marshalls n stuff. after this post of urs, im not so sure anymore. lovely stuff girl. waiting for some snaps with you in all of those. the jewellery’s lovely, the skirts really nice too.
Yes, I’m supremely jealous and hope you take me next time!
Now you need to tell me where/how to find a thrift store . Lovely finds!!
~ K
Me: Use yelp to find thrift stores other people love..
Really? I should try my thrift store..maybe…..I dont know!!!! I love your shoes!
Hey I loved the jewelery!!!!! Its all so pretty!!
First time im visiting your blog and its been real nice here.. Am blogrolling you
Me:waves hello.
Love the jewelry and the shoes. Good picks!
love the clothes and the jewelry. 3 hours no kids is bliss but those girls of yours are such darlings you can take them anywhere
What awesome stuff! I’ve never seen such nice things at a thrift shop. Truthfully, I lack the patience to look, but now I am inspired!
Me: Yes, patience is the key.:) Plus an eagle eye? Plus some karma?
Wear the black and white dress NOW! (and post a pic)
Me: I have to figure out some for the top, a black cardigan? A shrug? Maybe I will wear on Sat to my child’s preschool brunch?
Came across an interesting article – thot would share with ya..Just luv u’r blog

Me: Ohh I alreeady do most of that. I befriended the jewellery sales asst and she told me the week’s upcoming 50% color tag.:)
Nice, I love thrift stores too and like NK my husband thinks it’s weird. Must be a desi thing
So far I’ve mainly done knick-knacks and stuff though, interesting china always pops up in thrift stores. I haven’t had good luck with clothes , I mainly don’t have the patience or maybe my thrift store isn’t that great. I’ve only been to the Sunnyvale Goodwill in the bay area though I’ve heard that the Los Altos one is great because of it’s location.
Me: Ohh try Savers. I dont like driving so far so I stick to my little town and a 10 mile radius
Yeah, rub it in. Here it’s either Prada or nothing. That’s why they eat pasta all the time – it’s cheap.
Sigh how I miss bargain hunting, digging through boxes always give me a high.
