I had about 3-4 bags of stuff to donate. One was all of Samar’s baby outfits. The onesies he has outgrown, the shoes that the kids have outgrown. Another was my clothes and some of the shoes I bought on impulse which hmm dont fit right.
Anyways I went to my favourite thrift store and donated the stuff. Since I had time, I decided to do a sweep of the store. Could have bought many many things but held myself back. Today was All purple Tags were 99 cents. The store’s pattern goes like this, Thurs to Sunday, a particular colored tag is 50% off, Monday the same colored tag would be 99 cents. This particular thrift store is 2 levels. The upper level has furniture, golf clubs and skis. I seldom venture up there because I dont really shop for furniture. But today Samar ran up the stairs and I followed him. took a quick look round and saw this
a really heavy mirror. And then I saw the tag. PURPLE. Which means it would be 99 cents. I stood there thinking what to do. I am moving, do I really need a mirror. Stood and thought longer. A cup of coffee costs more than that. Whipped out my cell phone to call NK and told him, there is a mirror, width is about this 5 finger width and height is, it comes up to my boobs. And its 99 cents. Should I get it? He asked what I am going to do with it. I said I dont know but am going to get it. Its really pretty and its 99 cents.
I made the boys stand there(girls were in school) and dragged the thing down. Asked the first sales guy is it 99 cents and he said yes. I stored it behind the register and went to get the boys. Got in line to pay and then told another guy, thats my mirror and its 99 cents and he screams at the third guy is that true, Is it 99 cents?. The entire line(it was crowded) was staring at me and my mirror. I said, yup purple tag. Lady behind me, said wow you are lucky.
As an added bonus, you can see my awesome printed scarf.

Lovely Mirror. Great buy. As I have told you before, you have a radar that goes beep beep when you are near a steal
Me: Ohhh we need to figure out a word for that..Like gaydar.. What word should it be.
Why gaydar Did not get it. Please explain na
Me: gaydar means like you know whether a person is gay. bad joke.
BTW Did you stop the daily outfit series. Miss it.
Me: I seem to have misplaced my tripod. And its been raining. So no picture taking.
LOVE the mirror. I’m looking for something exactly like it!
Me: if you were closer, I would give it to you.Do you want me to shipped it to you? Though it weighs a ton.
Got it now. LOL.
I don’t comment as much as I’d like to these days, and I don’t think I’ve told you this before..but you’re awesome!
Me: you havent blogged in ages.
I’d found a damn cute mirror with cartoon animals painted on it for 99 cents too at a yard sale, bought it, it was so painted that we could hardly see the mirror, but it was so precious, and baby Divya used to love looking at it!
Me: Do you miss thrift stores and yard sales in India? That would be my biggest reason NOT to move
I am jealous! That’s a lovely mirror. And love your outfit, what I can see of it. =)
I WANT THAT MIRROR!!! i love hearing about your bargains. It somehow makes me really happy… haha. That mirror is sooooo lovely! xo
Oh wow! That mirror is BEAUTIFUL! I would buy it (even if it was more than 99 cents)! I wish our thrift shops were as cool as yours – our thrift shops get all the overstock stuff from the dollar stores, so just crappy stuff. Never good finds like you thrift store!!! Oh, the rug that is in the picture looks kinda cool too
And I LOVE your outfit
Glad your family is back together – hope you guys are having fun!
Me: We are having fun.going out to the youngest Christmas paegant. The cutest thing, a bunch of 3 yr old singing Jingle bells
Wow that is a great buy! You did great.
That’s an awesome mirror at a spectacular price and you are looking quite chic in it. I need a large mirror. Getting ready for the office Christmas party I was very annoyed that I did not have a view of myself from head to toe.
Me: I am going to recommend you go to yelp, find out which thrift stores are nice and then go hit them and see what you find.
*gasp* that is a FANTASTIC deal. I would buy that for $20 and feel good about the purchase!
Me: right? there is a mark behind it. I have to research whether its a antique piece. It weighed a ton and some kind stranger help lift into the van
Tell me the truth.. what was more exciting? That you got the mirror for 99Cents or the fact that everyone was so envious of you? I think I know the answer, don’t I? coz i’m such a smart ASS!
Me: You are!
Next time I am in town you and I are going shopping instead of sitting and chatting for hours
Me: Okay. You have bring Guddi as well.
99 cents!not even a dollar?yes you got to buy ..though you don’t know what to do with it..
This is fated. What a great thrift store.
Me: rofl at fated.
that mirror is such a bargain, it is quite big tho
that built in radar of yours is fabulous…you should make a profession out of advising people about their buys
Me:Its huge. A friend saw it on FB and saws she wants it. Should I sell or not?
Dumb question but what i do I enter as a search criteria in yelp ? Thrift stores ? I tried that and there seems to be nothing nearby.
Are there any other search options that I can use ?
Thanks!
~ K
