Good things happen to good people

Yesterday we had the girl’s dentist appt(between the 5 of us, we are practically live at the dentist). All four of the kids went with me. When we walked in, there was a mom there with her 2 boys. And she says, wow one more than me. I just smiled at her. We did the normal chit chat, which school, what ages..blah blah.

Her 2.5 yr old son was fascinated by Neil’s spiderman shoes. He has some speech delay issues, and all the time, all he did was point at Neil’s shoes and then his own and then tried to take off his shoes. I looked at his mom and  said, I have the same exact pair in Samar’s size which he has hardly worn..do you want them? I live very close to the dentist and will be back in 10 mins. She said are you sure. I said YES> SO I took Samar, told the dentist I would be back in like 10 mins and went  to get the shoes.

We get back. Samar takes both shoes and goes to the boy and says here you go. You can have them. The boy immediately takes his own shoes off and wears the spiderman wala. The mom was so so thankful. She tells my dentist and my dentist asked me whether I had them in the van and I said nope. She said you went all the way just to get the shoes. I was like uhmm yeah.

So long story short, my  dentist, gave me a discount on my upcoming wisdom(so dreading that) extraction. Did she give it to me because of the shoe? Maybe! Maybe not! (she reads my blog ,waves hello at Dr Kim) But like I said, do good things and good things happen to you.

PS:I also found the most gorgeous coral colored purse for $5. I threw out my dirty green bag(M, the one you had) and have been fondling this red one. It has really soft suede leather like feeling. Already had 3 compliments on it in the 2 hours I  used it.

That was awesome of you and very sweet of Samar too. Even if the thought had occurred to me I’d have agonized over it and then worried about many different things and missed the opportunity completely. Being spontaneous and generous is such a great combination :)

I firmly do believe that whatever do surely comes back to you, good or bad. In the initial days when I came to the US, had no car and had to walk a couple miles to school. One week som was visiting and he was driving me to school and on the way we saw another desi walking and we reversed the car and gave him a ride. The next day, som returned and I was walking in a heavy rain and an american stopped to ask me if he could give me a ride to school and I took it !!! Total karma, I say :)

  3. athika says:

Wow,you are truly a generous women! Apart from the giving part, the thought to go pick it from ur house ,makes you stand out from other people..or atleast me. Good luck on your 3rd molar extraction…

  5. Savvy says:

It was so sweet of you to give him the shoes. He is a total Spiderman fan! I’ve seen the little boy with Spiderman shirts a few times, and he’s been to my office only a few times. :)

Me: This is my dentist. How many bloggers have their dentist reading them? Albeit, my dentist is young, has 2 young kids and is very very tech-savvy.

thats so sweet of you! You deserve it!

    Me:Kenny.. Long time No see.

What a touching little story. You’ve raised them well.

  12. Goofy Mumma says:

That is just so sweet, of you and the doc! Lovely.
And I love anything red in accessories, shoes, bags, belts, jewellery… anything!

Me:You would love this bag. I think you would just die of jealousy, if you havent already.

  13. menaka says:

That was such a nice thing to do it made me delurk and say so! :) very jealous of your jewellery armoire

    Me:Where have you been?

  14. Sands says:

That was really sweet. Good luck with the wisdom extraction. I had all four of mine removed last summer :)

Me: 4 at once.. sounds horrible.just horrible.

  15. Smitha says:

That was so sweet of you! And the doc as well! Yes, good things do happen to good people :)

And do post pics of your purse – sounds lovely!

Me: Ohh I would…maybe in the next daily outft.

  16. Man, you are something different. Even if I had that extra pair of shoes, I wouldn’t have offered, thinking what if that lady doesn’t like it.

Me: Hmmm… the little boy was on verge of major tantrum. I think any sane mother would grab it..:)

I had all my wisdom teeth removed last year, and it is not as bad as its made out to be. For 2 days after the surgery, its a little difficult to eat, but nothing big. Good luck!

Me: I had the top 2 removed and it wasnt bad at all. But this time, its bottom two and 2 at the same time… arghhh

  17. snippetsnscribbles says:

I dont know if I’d have asked her in the first place!
Thats the thing I like about you – being spontaneous and not thinking too much about what the other person might react :) I’m sure your kids derive all the generosity from you :) Great job! Very proud of ya! Oh, and congrats on the discount :)

Me: Really, I am surprised at how many comments echo that? Whats the worst that could happen? She would say NO.

  18. M says:

I have to add a me-too here – am amazed at your spontaneous generosity – I might have thought of something like that, but I hardly ever initiate conversations with strangers….

Me: I am the crazy Indian lady who talks to everyone and my kids talk to all the dogs. rofl

And yay to new bags….do post pics…my green bag is still going strong though :-)

    M

Me:Mine’s good as well but I dont change bags on a daily basis so I get tired of them easily.

  19. sukanya says:

i am finally delurking. i follow your blog occassionally and love what i see. for this one, i had to comment. i would have never thought of fetching the shoes…i donate stuff a lot particularly my kids clothes and shoes but i dont think i would have done what you did. this is aboslutely incredible and goes to show what a big heart you have.
and i am deep believer of karmic faith.

good luck in setting up your house..i am looking forward to seeing the before and after pictures of it.

Me:waves hello. The house is slowly getting together. I am just so lazy to unpack things. Apparently NK needs to find his “stud finder” to start hanging stuff up. *rolls eyes*

  20. Beaulotus says:

    What goes about comes around.

I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed in the same sitting. Didn’t pay a cent as I was living in Germany then. It was covered by our insurance (which we paid expensively every month, of course). In Italy it would literally have cost 4 teeth :-)

    Good luck then!

Me: Okay I am encouraged by all the wisdom teeth story. No one has horror stories then.

  21. bini says:

S ..u have a heart of gold…and what goes around comes around. Im a strong believer in karma:)..You remind me a lot of my hubby ..One day he bought choclates for 5 bucks from a kid outside walmart and same thing was available in Walmart for 2 bucks. This was a at a time when he was out of work for nearly 2 months. Immediately the next morning at 8 he got an offer from a company. I dont know what it was but I believe that kid did say a prayer for him

Me: Aww another a feel good story. He got chocolate and a job…cannot beat that.

  22. Subha says:

    Sunita,

Lovely gesture. And i loved your attitude when you said ” Whats the worst that could happen? She would say NO. “… That is one thing that i would want to learn.. Accepting a NO and not feeling bad about it..

    Kudos to ya!

Me: It takes alot to make me feel bad. I have a very thick skin. but when I do, I linger over it for days, for example the witch hunt the moms in the kindergarten class, I still refuse to talk to any of them.

  23. deepa says:

See…this is why I love you. Beneath, those fancy cardigans and schmancy scarves is this bleedin’ heart:-)

  24. june says:

I love this post! That’s awesome, you need to send me your dentist’s info, I have been looking for one. She sounds great. And that was SUPER nice of you to run home and get the shoes.

Me: She is really nice. All 4 kids love going to the dentist. She has a helium tank and gives ballons, notepad, dinosaurs out at each visit. She also emails an texts appt reminders. Her info is in the link. Will send you an email.

Where is the picture of the purse?!

Me: Just uploaded it today. When we meet, you have to feel it.

  25. Parul says:

That was awesome… Samar is a good kid! I really admire that you were not too lazy to drive back home!

Me: I live really close to the dentist. In fact, my dentist volunteered to drive me home after my IV sedation for my extraction in Feb :)

  26. I Totally agree with the post title.

And, you sure do fall under that category :)

Me: You are too nice. AHK..I can be a hardcore bitch.Your update in FB reminded me of this post. I slipped and fell and got a deep cut on my elbow when 6 months preggo http://asaaan.com/2006/06/24/h20-sun-fun-and-also-blood/

That doc of yours also just fell into the category..for which she can expect something good from someone sometime soon.

Thats a nice goodness-chain going there!

  27. D says:

What a nice thing to do! It’s rare to find people who will not hold on to what they don’t need just because they don’t want to give it away to a stranger. You really deserve the doctor’s discount.

Me: Thanks D.. I needed that discount. rofl

  28. Denise says:

I am soo happy to have met you! You have a kind heart……….and I’m sure you’re a great mom!

    Me: :)

  29. sujatha says:

Good for you :-) . There are very few people who are willing to go that extra mile to help others…
