Convo with my sons

Youngest child: I have a penis.

Me:Who else has a penis?

YC:Neil, daddy. You dont have a penis.

Me:yes, I have a vagina.

YC:China? Pandas live in China

Both NK and I crack up.

———————

3rd offspring:We dont have school tomorrow

Me:Nope

3O:Why?

Me:Its MLK’s birthday

3o:Oh I heard of that guy. He had a dream.

————-

Packing for tomorrow’s school day.I ask youngest child, what he wants to bring for show and tell. He said Stripes, his stuffed tiger. I informed him he already brought that twice.

Older brother chimes in: Samar, you cannot bring that. Nobody would be impressed if you bring the same thing.

Me:What does impress mean , Neil?

Neil:It means that something is really cool and everything thinks it cool and also wants it.

Samar:Stripes is cool.

Neil:No Samar he is not. HE IS A STUFFED TOY.

Samar:He is tiger and he talks to me.

————————–

The boy’s bedtime..Samar is telling a story

Samar:Once upon time, there was a tiger and a lion, named Raja 1 and Raja 2. They went to the forest. They saw a chicken.

Neil: Samar, chickens live on a farm. They dont live in a forest.

Samar:Okay lets starts over again.Once upon a time, there was a tiger and lion, named Raja and Raja. They went to the farm. They saw a chicken. Chicken was lost. The lion wanted to help the chicken find its family. The tiger also helped her. The chicken found its mummy, daddy and sisters and brothers. The chicken was happy.

The psychoanalysis-enthusiast in me says – Every kid I read about seems to go through this “I have a penis and X doesn’t”, or “What’s that thing Y has that I don’t?” phase. Freud must have got something right!

Luckily we don’t remember the discovery process (or the people involved) later on!

Darned cute, those 2!!! I like where you asked him what he thought ‘impress’ means, sometimes my daughter comes up with totally hilarious answers!

Me: I do it all the time. Asking him or the girls what something means. Their explanations sometimes blows me away.
