Get out of my Business

Thursdays you know are special. I drop the older kids off to school and NK drops Samar. This way, I get an extra 45 mins or so. Today, Samar’s class had a birthday party. I normally pack a treat for him so that he can have something special while the other kids eat cupcakes. (I searched the house last night but didnt find anything.) I felt bad so I thought, I will make a quick grocery store run after I drop the older 3 and get him a fruit snack candy thing.

I am reading the ingredients list on the back of the box, making sure it doesnt have soy when, I hear this lady next to me.

Bitchy Lady: You know, you shouldnt buy those. They have Red  40.

I look at her and shrug my shoulders.

BL: Yes, they are really harmful and shouldnt  be given to kids at all.

Me: Mind your own business please.

Now, I am normally not this rude but when I am already rude doesnt that mean you fucking stop talking to rude person… No..she continues

BL: Well, excuse me I was just trying to be helpful

Me: Well, does it look like I need help?

I walk away at this point and she ranting and muttering about red dye and immigrants or something. I dont know. Now do I have a fucking antenna that attracts all the crazies to me? rude crazy people in the grocery store at 825am?

I go home, wanting to tell NK about this crazy person.

I walk into the house and see Samar still not ready for school and NK on the  computer. He then asks me to drop Samar instead. So I sulk silently and gave Samar his neb treatment, dress him, grab his  bag and storm out of the house.

By this time, its already 930 and I have to be back at school at 11. I hung around the class chatting with the moms and then went to another thrift store and took pictures for a  future post which I may or may not write. Didnt buy anything. Then went to Savers and bought a little stand thing to hold the scrubbing pads.

The enitre day was shot. I dont know why I am in this funk. Something else happened between my friends on FB and made me realize, I should reallly think twice(M if you reading this, its not you) about posting my crazy crap.

I am going out tonight and hopefully the weekend would be better

  2. Prashanti says:

I think she was trying to help but should have stopped when you just shrugged and did not seem interested. Have a good weekend and shake off all the anger :)

  3. Never Mind says:

I guess she was trying to help, but stuff about immigrants, so not acceptable.

Am excited to meet you guys tonight and should be fun!

  4. Denise says:

Next time…say “que? – no hablo engles” Means: What? I don’t speak English (in spanish)….hahaha or kaite tu boca *sp* – shut your mouth…ahhh hell, just tell her to shut up in your own language. you should tell her she probably needs some of that RED 40 so she wouldn’t be sooo crazy!

Tell her to protest outside of the store…! Where the hell do you shop?

I think you should blog about dealing with your anger issues caused by idiots in our area for about a month…you know….Those that think they know better or perhaps I should say…are better than us! Pure craziness…

Me: :) Imagine the crazies in the area are enough to keep me writing for a while.

  5. Guddi says:

Next time, laugh at her.. like LAUGH! ok?
Or do what Denise suggested.. Try Spanish and then your broken Hindi! Yes, your hindi is broken and it sucks ASS! :)

  6. starry eyed says:

I second Guddi…you should’ve insulted her big-time in Hindi…and given her the translation!!!

  7. AverageJane says:

Yeah. Some people (and strangers at that) are self-declared nutritionists. Gah.

  8. Hey, do you know am meeting S today evening? Yes, the same person who writes here and I read everyday? :D

Am silly and am excited, can’t help it ;)

  9. Joe says:

I guess I’m lucky because in my tenure as “parent” I have never been told what or what not to do by a stranger. Which is good because violence might ensue.

    L O S T … thumbs up or down? I enjoyed it.

    Stop by…

    • You watch LOST? I loved the premiere! :D

Me: The only TV I watch is LOST, Greys and Private Practice. Cant wait for next week.

      • Joe says:

I did and I loved it too. Very deep. Can’t wait to see how the Locke story pans out.

Me: Sayid coming to life..so does that mean Jacob backs. Ohh you should ask Sue to let you see her FB a/c and check out one of my updates. One of my friends posted a whole slew of LOST theories.

  10. athika says:

I hate nosy people but sometimes its best to ignore such kind of people and act as if u didnt hear her and walk away…anyway hope u have a great weekend: )

  11. Uma says:

People are weird, but don’t worry it isn’t just you. If you took public transit in a place like the bay area where all sane people drive you’d meet even more crazies. It used to be my only means of commute and even now I take the bus often. The funniest was when an Indian guy (yup that’s right) at the bus stop tried to evangelize. And I was only prepared for the usual Amway/Quikstar spiel not Jesus! I think it’s the weather, all the rain is depressing :(

Me: okay the Indian guy selling you Jesus..funny. What did you say to him?

  12. snippetsnscribbles says:

you guys are meeting up today?? :(

    have fun :(

    Me: It was fun!

  13. Miss M says:

Its just one of those days babe. Just go out tonight, have a drink and relax. :)
And you are meeting AHK today evening? You US bloggers seem to be having SO much fun! I want to come too!! :(

Me: It was fun! And we’ll meet the next time I am in Singapore.

  14. Dee says:

At least strangers annoy u, in my life, my family annoys the crap out of me..

Everything I do is second guessed, probed and a million and one questions spew out.

Anyway, I hope u have a wonderful weekend with lots of dancing, music, cocktails and maybe, without kids ;)

Me:rofl..My family is far away..at times I am thankful for that.

  15. Goofy Mumma says:

We all have those kind of days. There seems to some turn of fate, for everything to be that way. But I am sure you are much better, and in a happier place by now. As the GP says, never give advice, when not asked, someone would tell that woman.
And please do come up with the post with the pics.

Me: I went out Thursday, Friday and had the whole of Sat to myself. Feeling much better…thank you!

  16. just another reader says:

    Hey,

I am regular reader but dont comment much. If you can stand an honest opinion, then I think you were unnecessarily rude to her. She was not demeaning you, or insulting your parenting skills. She was only trying to help, though I would not have even bothered fearing exactly your same reaction. If I didn’t want anyone’s help, I would politely turn it down and say “thank you” and smile or turn away or something that will impart the same meaning as saying ” mind your business”.
How would you have felt if the lady at the dentist the other day said something similar or infact the same “will you mind your business, I can buy shoes for my own child ” when you offered to give her your son’s shoes?

yes, I know this is your blog and you write whatever you want and type whatever you want and delete my comment, which I think you will do anyway..but again..just to be clear.. I am NOT being rude.. I have nothing against you and infact like following your blog.. but this time, i’m just giving you my unbiased honest-reader-who-does-not-suck-up-to-please-blogger opinion.

    have a good day.
    Smriti

Me: I shrugged and smile. That should have been enough to stop her. Would you go around giving unsolicited advice at the grocery store? I am sure if that lady has a blog, she would have written about the Indian lady who was rude to her and her readers would have sympathised with her. FYI,I dont need anyone sucking up to me. Sucking up to me…what would a reader get from that? I dont have giveaways neither do I do anything special so no suck up needed. My kids do enough of that..:)
