The party

It’s over. I survived. The girls had an excellent time. The bags a huge, huge hit.(M, 3 of the moms who came up to drop their kids, didnt know they were tank tops. They asked me where I got the bags from)

I started the day at 830am. There was a sale in a church  that was held in one of the richest, secluded little city near me I wanted to go to. The sale was from 8-11am. I came up with doing a scavenger hunt at the last min and needed baskets. Samar and I headed off and spent $6 and came back with tons of stuff. (what I bought you can wait for it on Monday) I bought about 10 baskets for about 10-25cents each. Then we picked Neil, came home, made punch, made the dip, printed the scavenger list, set up the crafts in the baskets, brought the supplies down. NK took the later part of the day off from work . I ordered 2 party platters from Panda Express(chow mein noodles), he picked those up for and came home.

He cleaned the house a bit since the floors were filthy. I had to go pick the girls up and NK stayed with the boys. The girls and I then did a quick trip to the dollar store, got some balloons, some tablecloths and came home. When I walked in, all 3 men/boys were taking a nap.I thought it was hilarious that he took time off to help me but instead was taking a nap.

The bags lined up

Punch, BBQ wings, Noodles and fruit Salad with dip

The crafting table

This table had fabric markers and paint($30 from Joanns). I also had needles and thread. I kept sequins and beads and buttons for the girls to sew on.I was highly impressed with how creative the girls were. They made peace signs and  swirly designs. They used petals to form flowers.  I had another table set up with a glue gun and various laces and ribbons.

Check out the finished bags

See the yellow flower on the the blue bags. I got 20 of them from the Alameda flea market last week. I think each worked out to be 38cents. The girls loved them.

Afte finishing the bags, the girls had their food. (The noodles huge hit.)  I told the girls to form groups of 4.I then sent them outside for a scavenger hunt. Each group had a basket,a Ziploc bag and list. We spent 35-40 mins outside.  I had 20 things for them to find. Examples of things–>something a deer can eat something shiny, something that makes noise, a pine cone, moss, something that floats.

The list + baskets

Again very creative girls

Finally we went upstairs to have the cake.I also had 20 $1 dollar coins to give them as prizes for the scavenger hunt. The girls loved it.

Rainbow cake from Costco

The girls then had cake, more punch. By now it was 7.45 and parents were ready to bring their girls home. Everyone thanked me and left. Cleaned the church hall, lugged everything upstairs. Ashwina started opening presents. She got some great gifts. Washed the dishes packed the extra food and sent everyone off to bed at 9.20. I slept at around 10 exhausted.

This party went off really well. One of the reasons is because the girls are so much older and can follow instructions. I was really happy with how smooth everything was. Now Avasha’s is in July and I need to come up with something for that.

  7. Awesome !! Sounds like a fun party for the girls !
You know S, you and I both have to plan parties May and July :) for our girls !

You are so right … when the kids are older and can follow instructions its much much easier than with the little ones. It also helps that you can host “Kids only” party for older kids. When parents are involved, it gets tricky.

And a good time was had by all…

That’s neat, that there were folks who didn;t know about tank-top bags, but like I said, it seems to be a sewer thing – most folks who sew seem to know about it.
