Ramblings

My oldest child is away,at camp for an entire week. This is apparently been done for a long time here in CA,Outdoor Education, they go on hikes, explore tide pools and become one with Mother Nature. 60 11 yr olds,2 teachers and high school seniors to lead them. No cell phones,no electronic devices,no distractions.
Its bittersweet for me. She is growing and I need to let go and ensure that she can take care of herself.

The thing is I(we) miss her in little ways. Avasha slept in Neil’s room. Neil at 6 in the evening, comes to me and says in the most urgent voice,Mama who is picking Ashwina up. A Taylor Swift song comes and I miss singing it with her.

In other news, I called the allergist and was talking to the receptionist. I introduced myself as the “hysterical mother who was in on Friday” and she without missing a beat, says Which one,we had quite a few.
I lost it in pre school today when one of the mums asked me whether Samar could have Gorilla Munch(something he has had before) and I started crying blabbering about tests and new allergies. That poor mum just sent me a very concerned email.

The last few weeks of school is going to be insane. I am planning Neil’s class end of year party, helping to do invitations for Ashwina’s 5th grade graduation party, and then planning for other small things. I am looking forward to sleeping in late during the summer.

If I was you, I’d be looking forward to an interrupted year-long sleep.. that’s how much you get done!

Awww for you and the kids missing Ashwina so bad.. she’ll be back soon, and will have so many stories to tell! :) Cheer up now you guys.

Wishing you and Samar all the luck and strength with this allergy. Hope the upcoming tests show better results!

Hey, first time commenting here….Dont worry, Samar will grow out of the allergies? I cant imagine your frustration, hope you find some solution soon..

Also man, I cant imagine my baby girl going to a camp by herself! And she is three and a half already and keeps telling me – Mommy, I am not a baby when I refer to her as my baby :(

awww…poor you! My son’s camp is scheduled for September – as soon he hits fifth grade – seems to be the done thing all over the US. I camped in school as well, part of girl guides, and we actually camped (leaking tents!, cooking over a smoky campfire!) – am still scarred for life :) I *like* my creature comforts!

Me: She has done girl scouts camp since 2nd-3rd grade but this time no mommies that I trust.

Any update on Samar’s allergy testing?

Me: I have to go to the lab to get his 2nd blood test done and then we’ll do a skin test next week.

    Hey,

I am sure it must be hard to let Avasha go for a one whole week, I can only imagine. I was terrified when my son went for a day trip to some place 50 miles from here…
You can’t go and visit them?

    Me: Nope.

    Hi Su,
Hang in there, I can imagine how heartbreaking this is. Reh had a tryst with allergies which mercifully have worked out ok, so I know what you’re going through. When we were younger, my little sister being asthmatic meant no cold dairy products, icecreams etc in front of her. Its just something you get used to really. Your kids will understand. There might be other options, other things he will learn to love? I know the worst is the work, the never ending work it is for us moms. The never ending changes and the helplessness at not having situations under control. Most of all the sadness we feel for the kid in question. It will be fine, you’ll find a way and a new routine will keep things in place.
I just wanted to ask you – have you tried natural remedies? I made Reh go through a Chinese Accupressure and bunch of stuff related with it session to handle this Spring better and it worked. We have to keep doing it before every Fall n Spring though tlll he’s older. See if there’s something on those lines. Try natural medicinal foods like kalonji and honey with turmeric, I dont know I’ve tried all these things and I dont know what clicked for Reh but he’s good now. Touchwood.
    Hugs.

Me: Thanks for the hugs. I know my dad had looked into Chinese herbal stuff when we were in Singapore but he was too young and those herbs would have been too “heaty” for his infant body. My dad has stuff he wants use to try when he visit the next time.
