Most of my monday moneysavers have been about buying for the house. Sure I might resell something here or there(on the mom’s club) but I do not wake up at the crack of the dawn to hit the sales. I go to one at the last minute to score some deal. That has since changed, this past week, I got up at 7.15, and was armed with a list and a huge assed tote bag.
Even NK has been extremely supportive(his fav saying, dood dayti gai ko koyi laath nahi martah–no one kicks a cow which gives milk) He worked from home on Friday. I meet someone at the preschool for a tour and then hit 2 sales. One of them, I scored 2 bags full of American Girl Doll clothes. Do you guys know about this doll? They are crazy expensive dolls with crazy expensive clothes.
Now, I make Ebay look easy but the truth is it that it is hard hard work. From researching to taking photos to answering questions to measuring to listing to finding keywords to packing to shipping and then finally hoping the mail people deliver it safe and sound and then finally hoping that the buyer leaves you positive feedback.
I spent 3-4 hours yesterday afternoon putting the damm doll outfit set together…figuring out which outfit fits which doll and what each outfit’s name was and which year it was released. It was exhausting work.
But it paid off, I listed 4-5 sets, 3 of which have sold within 2 hours. And I still have a bunch to list.
I also got me one of this. I dont know how effective it is with the amount of dirt the kids drag into the house but for $5, I can try it out.It came with 2 virtual wall, the docking station and the charger.
Sat morning, I met up with June and we hit the garage sales, A few we went to were kinda of crappy. Then we went to one that was hosted by the American Legion club at one of the member’s house. June scored 2 brand new booster seats and something else. I got a bag full of Dk Rowan 10 skeins of 100% yarn, 4 Jadeite plates and 2 authentic Dooney and Bourke bags. I took the bags to June and asked whether she thought it was real. She said it looked real. I figured for a $1, I will try my luck. Came home, posted on one of the forums and the people there said YUP REAL. Again Score!
I dont understand how can people pay hundreds of dollarsfor fugly brand name bags. I’m sure my younger sisters are going to be emailing me telling me to save one for them.

Oh, we are sooooo jealous! My daughter collects AG and we are always hunting for clothing and accessories. Nice score!
Me: Mine never got into them. They have 2 build a bears and thats it.
Go girl. You did it again. I am one of those people who love D&B but never had heart to part so much money for a bag. I was gifted one by my DH for my first mother’s days (a month after my son was born) but returned it immediately. I know how many similac tins we can get for the money he paid for one bag. I had another chance while working to own D&B(just a wristlet which was worth$125) thru my company’s employees rewards site (performance based award for each project) but I got something for the house all the time.
I loved DB because as a kid I watched vistors from abroad carried such bags when they came home. It used to remind me of singapore and London in those days.(never thought of US as child).I am sure you are going to hit gold with this bag if you resell on ebay. May be wait till Nov to list on them ebay.
I understand your decision to stop writing this blog or make it private . But please start a new blog to write about your thrifting tales. I like reading your thrifting adventures.

Me: If its something you want that much, you should get it. Heck you want this fugly one. Heck if you want this, let me know I would mail it out to you.
Thanks Sunita. There are designer crazy people out there and you can sell it to them like you usually do.
If I want one I can get as many as I wanted. But never wanted to send money to a designer who want to become more rich . I don’t get it when people spend fortune on a bag .
I have nostalgic memory of the D&B prints and colors specially the brown ones. My interest stops right there. I sew more beautiful bags with prettiest designer fabrics.

Me: I found it. Left a comment. You were not offended by my previous comment right?
BTW, I have a blog. Google name from my email.
a bit. but then you don’t know me and my background so I guessed you judged me. May be you thought me as your younger sister right ? ; ).
My family has many desinger crazy people who pay anything for a designer brand. We end up giving designer labels as gifts . At times we receive them as gifts from family too.
I also don’t understand why peopel pay lot of money to buy used/thrifted items just like the designer labels. I am curious to read the thrifting sites specially about the price people get for their garage sale finds.

What sort of profit margin do you make on this? Have you thought about scaling up and getting more organized?
Me: Pera, I could tell you but then I would have to kill you.
Ebay is NOT easy. Or ok, it might even be easy, but it’s DEFINITELY time-consuming! I can’t imagine where you get the time or the energy to be an Ebay seller, Sunita. hats off to you.
And LOL re fugly brand-name bags (and clothes)… I always wonder the same thing!
Me: Wait till you read about my fall schedule. I figure if I cut out sleeping, then I would have enough hours in the day.
When will I ever meet you and go thrifting with you woman? When?
And yes, i don’t like the bag either.
Hi There!
Nice to meet you! I stumbled across your blog from one of the thrifty sties. I love your style, and how you tell your stories. Yes, kids can be quite a challenge sometimes, but so worth it. you have found some great goodies lately. I too sell on e-bay, and yes it is hard work by the time you research everything and get it listed. Wishing you lots of luck with that endeavor. Stop by and say hello sometime. I have you bookmarked in my favorites.
